Many may feel that kindness is impractical: It doesn’t get us what we want; we have no time for it, or we have more important things to do. However, kindness is extremely practical, for it cuts through isolation, fear, and aggression...When we relegate kindness to mere social courtesy, we are handicapping our access to the ambassador of love and compassion—deeply held powers of the human heart.

Kindness is staying open in the face of radical disagreement. Through the power of meditation, we have the strength to encounter our differences, look at how we close our hearts and our own self-protective patterns and explore the potency of kindness in creating Enlightened Society.

With a juicy experiential and interactive teaching style, Acharya Melissa Moore invites us to deepen our societal practice of kindness to self, other and society, tapping into the potency of the heart to exchange self with others.

This weekthun will be exceptional in that in addition to hours of deep sitting practice every day we will explore the Sakyong's teachings on enlightened society including Shambhala Meditation, embodiment, the practice of conversation and the Shambhala Sadhana. We will also pilot the the Sakyong's unreleased Sadhana of Kindness, a communal liturgy exploring the exchange of self and other and the truth of heartfelt non-duality.

The retreat has a societal emphasis—Shambhala Meditation, group activities, starting and ending together, a New Year’s Eve Shambhala Sadhana Feast and dance party will all be part of this practice retreat. This retreat aims to bring us into deep community, yet allowing space for formal practice containers for those with varying Shambhala practices. All levels are welcome, including those new to meditation.

This retreat fulfills Shambhala Group Practice Requirements for Shamatha Vipashyana, Ngondro, Werma and Scorpion Seal.
